This week at Letchmore Infants' & Nursery School-
Last Friday we held an awareness day for World Down’s Syndrome day where the children wore odd socks. It was lovely to see the children supporting such a worthy causing and learning more about how Down's syndrome affects people.
Each term at Letchmore we celebrate a values champion from our Reception and Key Stage One classes. This term we congratulated the following children on embracing their 'Letchmore Values':
Wren: Anastasia
Starling: Nellie
Kingfisher: Hope
Goldfinch: Bobby
Greenfinch: Aleena
Chaffinch: Reuben
Snowy Owls: Arthur
Tawney Owls: Zara
Barn Owls: Mariella
We all enjoyed a wonderful, spring themed tea party and shared with one another our reasons for being selected a values champion. It was lovely to hear that our values champions always try their best, show kindness to their peers and make good choices throughout each and everyday. The children were all so proud of themselves.
This term we have focussed on the values of: Independence, Not giving up and Showing respect. We explore these values through our assemblies but also link our weekly class values champion to the value of the month. When a child is observed living their 'Letchmore Values', either at school or at home, we love to celebrate it with one of our 'WOW' forms.
This week the children had a visit from the Rocksteady music school. The children loved this immersive experience and everyone got really involved in making music and even got to use some of the instruments including electric guitars, keyboards and drums. You will have received an email regarding the booking of music sessions (available to specific year groups).
To see videos of the event go to the video resource centre under the 'Children' tab on the home page.
This week we have been celebrating ‘Letchmore Book Week’. It has
been lovely to see so many parents for the phonics workshops, we hope
you have found them useful and have been amazed at how much the
children learn in their phonics.
On Tuesday and Wednesday we were lucky enough to have ‘Perform for Schools’ join us for some drama workshops. The children loved taking part in the workshops and acting out the stories.
On Thursday we had so many different characters join us at Letchmore for the day and lots of children in their snuggly pyjamas. Many children brought in their favourite story book to enjoy as well. It was so lovely to welcome back the Year Six’s from Almond Hill who came to share books and stories with our Year Two children. We are always very proud to see how grown up they have become and such great role-models for our children. Throughout the week there has been lots of class swaps and the children have enjoyed hearing stories from other teachers. The Teacher’s from the main school have also been sharing stories with the nursery children and on Tuesday Miss Honey (our school dog) also joined the nursery children for their special story time.
Our school PTA have also taken part in our ‘Letchmore Book Week’ I wonder if you were one of our lucky golden ticket winners! As always we are very grateful for the support they provide for the school.
It has been a lovely week and both the staff and children have really enjoyed it.
