The Reception children had lots of fun on Thursday during their first inspirational day where we celebrated our learning from our topic 'Celebrations'.  The children came into school dressed to represent a celebration. This included birthdays, Christmas, Divali, Weddings and Bonfire night. The children made sandwiches, acted out parties and used their creative skills to make crowns etc. In the afternoon we had a party and the children enjoyed playing party games and dancing, they then came back for party food. The day was enjoyed by everyone.

  • Reverse Advent Calendar

    Tue 22 Nov 2022

We are participating in the reverse advent calendar again this year. Every day, from 1 December up until Friday 16 December, we are asking for families to donate something for our ‘Reverse advent calendar’ boxes which will then be donated to ‘People for People’ of Stevenage. This is a way ofhelping those most in need over the Christmas period. If each family were to donate one item each day this would make an incredible difference to many who are struggling. This links closely with our school value of ‘love and care’, and is a great way to show our children that Christmas is also about giving. We understand that this may be a difficult time of year for some of our families and we only ask for donations if you feel you are able to help.  If you are not in a position to do it, please do not worry.

Suggestions of items needed- (Please check use by dates)

    •     Packet goods- pasta, noodles, stuffing
    •     Toiletries- deodorant, soap, unwanted gift sets

  • Be Bright Be Seen

    Fri 18 Nov 2022

Be Bright, Be Seen Campaign- Visibility is a key issue all year round, whether children are walking or on their bike. However, over the autumn/winter months, it is especially important as the school day can start and end in twilight. During term time, the majority of child road accidents happen in the afternoon and evenings, especially in the autumn and winter when it gets dark earlier in the day.

Ways to make sure you stay visible to motorists are:

    •     During the day, bright and fluorescent clothing is best.
    •     At twilight and night time, reflective clothing or tape that is picked up in car’s headlights is best.
    •     It is against the law to cycle at night without a white front light, a red back light and a red reflector at the back.
    •     Always choose routes and cross at places that are well-lit.
    •     Where possible, cross the road at a pedestrian crossing

The message for pedestrians and cyclists is to wear bright clothing during the day and reflective clothing or accessories after dark.

Drivers should be especially careful around schools and mindful of their speed when visibility is poor.

Bright Kidz is a partner of this campaign and have some fabulous products available to help children Be Bright and Be Seen helping them to stay safe. https://brightkidz.co.uk/

  • Walking Map

    Fri 18 Nov 2022

As part of our commitment to promoting active travel to school and improving congestion in and around the school community, we have produced a walking map which provides parents and carers with information about the local footpaths, cycle tracks, zebra crossings and more.  This can be found on our website under both ‘About Us-View our School Environment’ and this weeks ‘Latest News’.  We would love to see as many of you as possible walking, cycling, scootering or parking further away from the school and striding the last 5/10 minutes.

        Walking Facts-

    •  You use 200 muscles in your body to walk!
    • Those who walk to school can concentrate four hours longer than those who arrive by car
    • You are exposed to 21% more air pollution in a car than walking
    • Walking is free, healthy and zero-emissions
  • War Memorial Visit

    Fri 18 Nov 2022

On Monday, children from Reception to Year 2 went on a visit to the War Memorial on the Bowling Green in Stevenage Old Town. They looked at the wreaths which had been placed at the memorial on Remembrance Sunday and laid wreaths that the children had made in school.  Photos can be seen on the website.

  • Barn owl class Tree Planting for Community Orchard

    Fri 11 Nov 2022

Stevenage Borough Council will be creating three new Community Orchards in sites around Stevenage, to support the Queen’s Green Canopy, and Barn Owl class was invited to help with some of the planting this week at Letchmore park, along with local Councillor Jim Brown.

The children worked really hard digging and filling in the soil around the new trees and   had just as much fun finding worms.

They are all very excited to be able to come back to these trees when they are fully grown and to be able to pick fruit to eat.

    Fossils and Minerals Art

A huge thank you to Tyler in Tawny Owl who has very kindly donated to our school lots of rocks and minerals!

We would love for the children to have a go at making some fossil or mineral art so that we can create a lovely display of our fossils and minerals. Here are some ideas that may help to inspire you.

Please return your artwork to your class teacher or to Mr. Green by 1st December 2022.

    Thank you

  • Year 2 'Happy Habitats' Inspirational Day

    Fri 04 Nov 2022

Year 2 had their first Inspirational Day of the year this week where they were looking at 'happy habitats’.  Throughout the term they have been learning about different types of habitats (including micro-habitats), simple food chains, and animal lifecycles. Their task was to choose their favourite wild animal and then design, make and evaluate a suitable habitat for that animal. The children had lots of fun doing this as you can see from the pictures of the messy classrooms!
